our story

Firma began in 2017 with a simple belief: work should be done properly, with honesty, skill, and pride

Founded by industry professionals who came up through the field, we built Firma experiential knowledge.  What started as a small team has grown into a trusted civil, concrete, and industrial contractor serving communities across Western Canada.

Our roots are in Saskatchewan, and our growth is ballooning across Western Canada, but our values remain the same.

Show up
Do it right
Stand behind
the work.

2017

Founded in Saskatchewan

Firma begins operations in Saskatchewan, marking President Zak Parker’s return from Alberta. With two civil crews in Saskatoon, the company carves out an early niche delivering municipal development work built with accuracy and accountability.

2018-2021

Growing Civil Capabilities in Saskatchewan

Demand grows quickly as Firma becomes a trusted civil contractor across the province. The team expands to three civil crews, completing development and underground replacement projects.

In 2019, Firma achieves COR Certification in Saskatchewan — setting the safety benchmark moving forward.
By 2021, the company incorporates Ronin Concrete Inc., launching a dedicated division for structural concrete, flatwork, and commercial/residential concrete services.

2022-2024

Major Projects & Alberta Expansion

Firma opens an Edmonton office and soon after begins work on the Edmonton Valley Line LRT, solidifying its role in large-scale civil infrastructure. Rapid growth across both provinces sees the company double its employee base within six months.

By 2024, Firma earns Alberta COR Certification, strengthening its reputation as a safety-driven contractor. During this period, Firma Group expands into integrated concrete and industrial scopes to better serve Western Canada’s project demands.

2025

Western Canada Growth & New Divisions

In under a decade, Firma has grown to more than 250 employees with crews operating across three provinces. The creation of Firma Concrete Inc. further strengthens group capabilities.

August 2025 marks the first annual Firma Charity Golf Tournament, raising $25,000 in support of the Zebra Child & Youth Advocacy Centre.

Looking ahead, Firma continues building strong partnerships with Indigenous Nations, industrial leaders, developers, and community organizations. The commitment remains the same: exceptional quality, a strong employee culture, industry-leading safety, and trusted expertise across every scope.

Leadership

Zak Parker

President, Firma Group

With 20 years in the construction industry, Zak has worked his way up from an entry-level laborer to a seasoned professional who still loves showing up every day.  He is driven by growth—constantly learning new skills, exploring new corners of the industry, and finding ways to support others through his success.

Work doesn’t feel like work when you’re surrounded by great people and doing what you love. Outside of the job, Zak is a husband, a father of three amazing kids, and a late-in-life golfer and hockey player who took up both at 40—and now he’s obsessed.

If Zak is not with his family or on the job, you can probably find him on the ice or the course.
